Ren laughs softly at the idea that Rey would put herself between the Resistance and him. It's not a clever move, really, and it isn't the kind of self-serving that the Sith way professes. It's not even truly Jedi, in that the Jedi had long turned their backs on someone like him. It's unique to her.
